Twist out using perm rod

This past winter I tried a twist out using perm rods and this was the result, I really liked the results, but I must admit by the end of day the curls decided to leave. I would love to try this look again, any suggestions on how to keep the curls? Have you tried this style before? If so what were your results?

My goal is to stay out of my hair as much as possible, so it can grow, so I've been playing around with protective styles. Protective styles help keep your hands out of your hair, it gives your hair a rest. I'm kinda feeling my high puff. Do you wear protective styles? If so which ones work for you?
